What are you thankful for?

That was the question at our Peace Dinner this month. Our youth team, kicked off the night doing a fun activity asking that very question.

First they split the large group into five smaller groups. Each group was then given a section of a paper turkey. As a group they determined what they are all thankful for. Then wrote it on their section of the turkey. In the end, all five sections were combined to create a full turkey showing what our Peace Dinner Guests are thankful for!!

It was great activity and really got everyone thinking.

Try this activity sometime to kick of a meeting, event or with your family. It brings everyone a little closer and finds out what each person really appreciates!

November Youth Team Member of the Month - Felecia Connor

Felecia is a Junior at DeLaSalle High School and has been a member of the youth team for several years! We asked her why she originally joined and she said, "It was a great volunteer opportunity that's goal is to help better the Northside!" She loves her community and continues to be a part of the team because of that!

Over the years Felecia has learned how to work well with others of all different backgrounds. Her favorite part though, is being able to spend time with friends from all different schools. It is great bonding time!!

Thank you Felecia for all you do! We are so honored to have you as part of our team!

Youth Team September Mixer

This past Peace Dinner our Youth Team took a great Activity and developed it even more.

Each year, they Youth Team plays People Bingo. Guests are given the opportunity to ask other guests to fill in answers on their bingo board. It could be things like, I have taken been to another country, I have a pet, I have been attending the Peace Dinner from the beginning, etc. Once they get a bingo, the can turn their board in for a prize. This activity is great because it gets everyone up and talking to each other. One of the problems is though, the guests tend to stick to asking the guests at their table and never venture out to meet other guests further away.

This month, the Youth Team wanted to get guests meeting others from each table in the room, therefore they changed up there questions and the process.

Click here to download their Questionnaire!

Feel free to use this activity at your next gathering!

Check back next month, to see what our Youth Team does as a mixer this month!

October Youth Team Member of the Month - Julius Johnson

Julius is a senior at North High School and has been on the youth team for several years! He originally joined to help his community! He keeps coming back because he loves the experience he has gained and knows it will be useful. He also likes to volunteer. One thing Julius learned from being on the youth team is that being diverse as far as the people your open to, is important.

When we asked Julius what his favorite part about being on the youth team is he said, "EVERYTHING!"

Thank Julius for everything you do!! You are a great asset to the youth team!!

Kick Off To Our 6th Peace Dinner Season

This past Tuesday (September 25th) we kicked off our 6th Season of the Peace Dinners. It was such a great night. Over 100 guests took part in our dinner and activities.

For the past several years we have had a group of volunteers run our kitchen. Their job is to prepare, serve and dish up left overs for the dinner. At the end of the last season we surprised them with aprons as a thank you for everything they do!

This year they surprised us by doing a reveal of their decorations. Check it out!

Here is them getting them on to show us.

Ta Da!!

Later that night, we had all the kids put their handprints all over to show their appreciation. It was such a great moment to be a part of. More pictures will come of their aprons!

Thank you to Steven, Jacquie, Dustin and Beth (who is not pictured here)! We are so honored we get to work with you!
